Croatia is one of Europe's premier windsurfing destinations — the Maestral and Bora winds blow reliably across the Adriatic from spring to autumn, and spots like Bol on Brač Island are considered among the world's top 10 windsurfing venues.
Two locations stand out above all others for windsurfing in Croatia. The first is Bol on Brač Island — home to the famous Zlatni Rat beach, a spit of shingle that points directly into the channel between Brač and Hvar. The afternoon Maestral wind funnels perfectly through this channel, creating remarkably consistent side-shore conditions that have made Bol a windsurfing destination for over 40 years.
The second is Viganj on the Pelješac peninsula — perhaps even more reliably windy than Bol, with the Maestral wind arriving almost every afternoon between June and September. Viganj's long shallow bay and steady thermal winds make it the preferred spot for freestyle and wave riding when the Bora picks up from the north.
We arrange both lessons and equipment rental at both locations. Beginners typically progress from standing on the board to sailing in a controlled direction within a single 3-hour lesson. Experienced windsurfers can rent high-performance equipment and be pointed towards the best spots on the island. Reach Bol from Split via a short private transfer and ferry — or book the whole experience as part of a Croatia tour package.
