The drive from Dubrovnik to Mostar crosses the Herzegovinian karst — dramatic limestone plateaus that rise from the Adriatic and descend into the Neretva River valley. At the Bosnian border, the landscape doesn't change abruptly, but the culture does: the green Ottoman minarets of Herzegovina's villages replace the Venetian bell towers of Dalmatia within minutes of the crossing. By the time you reach Mostar's Stari Most bridge, you're genuinely somewhere different.

An optional stop at Počitelj — a perfectly preserved 15th-century Ottoman fortress village perched above the Neretva river — takes 20 minutes and adds considerable historical depth to the drive. The village is one of the most photogenic spots in the whole Dubrovnik-Mostar route.
