Exploring Croatia on horseback reveals a pace and perspective that no tour bus or jeep can match — winding through olive groves and lavender fields, along mountain trails with Adriatic views, and into quiet countryside where time seems to have stopped several centuries ago.
Croatia's Dalmatian hinterland is one of the most beautiful and least-visited parts of the country — a landscape of limestone hills, ancient olive groves, dry-stone walls and traditional farming villages that sees a tiny fraction of the coastal crowds. Exploring it on horseback is the most authentic and atmospheric way to experience the real Dalmatian countryside.
Our guided horse riding tours operate from equestrian centres in the countryside around Split and Makarska, working with well-trained, calm horses appropriate for riders at all levels. Beginners start with a basic horsemanship session in the paddock before heading out on a guided 1.5-hour trail through the surrounding countryside. Experienced riders can book longer routes — up to 4 hours — that climb into the foothills with views across the coast and islands.
Sunset rides are particularly popular — departing at 5–6pm and following trails that face west towards the Adriatic, timing the return to coincide with the last light. A unique and genuinely memorable way to end a day in Dalmatia. Combine a morning horse ride with an afternoon canyoning or Cetina River rafting session for a full adventure day from Split.
